Submission: Catherine Boga Dedvukaj, RN, CPAN, clinical nurse, PACU

Catherine presented the following questions to ponder while reviewing the article:

  1. How can patient’s pain beliefs and realistic pain outcomes be better assessed before the patient’s surgery day?
  2. What are some tools/resources that patient’s can be taught/given pre-operatively that can increase the chance of better pain outcomes for the patient post-operatively?
  3. The journal article touches briefly on non-pharmacological methods and interventions that can be used to treat patient care: breathing exercises, guided imagery, and back massage. What other non-pharmacological methods and interventions do you think would be beneficial after hip or knee replacement surgery?
